Every morning, when the golden sun peeked over the barn roof, the five hens would waddle out into the yard together.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning, world!\u201d clucked Rosie, who was the bravest of them all.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning, sunshine!\u201d said Daisy, who loved warm puddles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning, worms!\u201d whispered Poppy, who was always hungry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning, flowers!\u201d sang Lily, who had a sweet little voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The duck blinked. \u201cWell, good luck. But watch out for the tall grass.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The hens waddled on.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tall grass was very tall.<\/span><\/p>\n

It tickled their feathers.<\/span><\/p>\n

It swished around their little legs.<\/span><\/p>\n

It made Poppy sneeze.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAchoo! I think the grass is laughing at me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lily giggled. \u201cMaybe it is!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Daisy flopped into a patch of clover. \u201cOr maybe it\u2019s giving us a hug.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Violet smiled. \u201cI like hugs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After a while, they reached the apple tree.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was the biggest tree on the farm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its branches stretched wide, and red apples hung low like little lanterns.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the tree sat a small brown rabbit with one floppy ear.<\/span><\/p>\n

He looked very sad.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rosie stepped forward bravely.<\/span><\/p>\n

It fluttered gently in the breeze.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere!\u201d Violet whispered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone looked up.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh no,\u201d said Rosie. \u201cThat\u2019s very high.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t climb trees,\u201d said Oliver sadly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poppy scratched her head. \u201cI\u2019m better at digging than flying.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lily sang a little song. \u201cMaybe the wind will bring it down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But the wind only giggled and blew the ribbon higher.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then Daisy had an idea.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat if we make a hen tower?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rosie\u2019s eyes lit up. \u201cA hen tower!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

So the five little hens made a plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Daisy stood at the bottom because she was very steady.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poppy stood on Daisy because she was very determined.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lily stood on Poppy because she was very light.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rosie stood on Lily because she was very brave.<\/span><\/p>\n

And Violet?<\/span><\/p>\n

Violet climbed to the very top.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone gasped.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even Oliver the rabbit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Violet was usually shy. But now she stretched her little wings as far as they could go.<\/span><\/p>\n

The blue ribbon danced just above her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlmost\u2026 almost\u2026\u201d she whispered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, with one brave hop, Violet reached it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ribbon floated down into her beak.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGot it!\u201d clucked Rosie.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHooray!\u201d sang Lily.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of you!\u201d said Daisy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poppy added, \u201cYou\u2019re almost as exciting as a big worm.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Violet blushed under her feathers.<\/span><\/p>\n

She hopped down carefully, and the other hens helped her.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then Violet carried the blue ribbon to Oliver.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor you,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oliver\u2019s eyes shone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Violet smiled so wide that even her tail feathers looked happy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just then, the sun began to sink behind the hills.<\/span><\/p>\n

The sky turned pink and gold.<\/span><\/p>\n

The farm looked soft and sleepy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI should go home,\u201d said Oliver. \u201cBut may I visit you tomorrow?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes!\u201d said all five hens at once.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oliver waved his floppy ear and hopped away.<\/span><\/p>\n

The five little hens walked home together.<\/span><\/p>\n
