One was named Oliver; his fur was as soft as freshly baked caramel pudding. The other was named Barnaby; his fur was as round and plump as a gray mushroom after the rain. They weren’t real bears, but rather the most cherished toys of their little owner, Lily. Yet whenever moonlight slipped through the cracks in the curtains and into the room, they would quietly blink their button eyes and come to life!

That night, just as Lily had fallen asleep, Oliver gently nudged Barnaby: “Barnaby, did you hear that? There’s a ‘rustling’ sound coming from under the pillow!” Barnaby pricked up his fluffy ears and sure enough, heard a faint rustling sound, like a little mouse nibbling on a cookie. The two teddy bears tiptoed up onto the pillow. Oliver gently lifted a corner with his paw—wow! It turned out to be a star-shaped candy wrapped in cellophane that had rolled out of Lily’s pocket at some point.

“Is this candy that fell from the moon?” Barnaby poked the wrapper curiously, and it made a crisp rustling sound. Oliver shook his head and pushed the candy toward Barnaby: “Try it—it might taste like a dream.” Barnaby took a tiny, cautious bite, and his eyes immediately lit up like two little stars: “It tastes like honey! And… and it smells like a quilt that’s been warmed by the sun!”

The two fluffy bears took turns taking bites, dividing the Star Candy right down the middle. Oliver had sparkling sugar frosting on the corner of his mouth, and a bit had stuck to the tip of Barnaby’s ear. They looked at each other and grinned like fools, their button eyes curving into crescent moons. Just then, a gentle breeze blew in through the window, carrying the rustling sound of distant oak trees—as if the forest were humming a lullaby.

“Time to go back,” Oliver said with a tiny yawn, folding the candy wrapper into a little boat and placing it on Lily’s nightstand. Barnaby nodded, took Oliver’s paw, and slowly crawled back to the pillow, nestling himself into Lily’s arms. Oliver snuggled up beside Barnaby, resting his fluffy head on his shoulder.

Moonlight quietly draped them in a silvery veil, and the sweet scent of star-shaped candies still lingered in the air. The two teddy bears’ breathing gradually became as light and slow as two feathers resting on the same branch. They knew that when the sun rose, they would turn back into quiet toys, but tonight’s dreams would surely taste of honey and carry the scent of sun-dried quilts.

Good night, Oliver. Good night, Barnaby. Good night, all the little secrets that quietly awaken under the moonlight.

[15
21,18
post-612","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-children","tag-children","tag-story
["GET
