She had long ears that flopped to one side, a tiny pink nose that wiggled when she was happy, and the most beautiful red eyes — bright and round like two little rubies.

But there was one problem.

The other animals always stared at Lily’s eyes.

“Oh, look!” said Oliver the Owl, blinking from his branch. “Why are your eyes so red, Lily?”

“Did you cry all night?” asked Milo the Mouse, scurrying past with a piece of cheese.

“Are you angry at someone?” whispered Rosie the Robin, tilting her head.

Lily felt her ears droop. She didn’t want to explain every single day. So one morning, she tucked a little blue scarf around her eyes like a mask and went to find her grandmother, Grandma Clover.

Grandma Clover was the oldest and wisest rabbit in Whispering Woods. She lived in a warm burrow under a big oak tree, and her fur was silver and soft as moonlight.

“Grandma,” Lily said, sitting close, “why do I have red eyes? Everyone keeps asking me. I wish I had brown eyes like Milo, or blue eyes like Rosie.”

Grandma Clover smiled gently and patted Lily’s head.

“Oh, my little one,” she said, “let me tell you a secret.”

She reached for a tiny mirror on the wall and held it up to Lily.

“Look at your eyes,” Grandma said. “They are red because our rabbit family has something very special inside us — a little bit of magic.”

Lily’s eyes grew wide. “Magic?”

“Yes,” Grandma Clover said. “Long, long ago, the very first rabbit in our family was given red eyes by the Moon herself. The Moon said, ‘I want every rabbit to carry a piece of my light, so that even in the darkest night, they will never be afraid.'”

Lily gasped. “The Moon gave them to us?”

“That’s right,” Grandma said. “Your red eyes are like tiny lanterns. When the night is dark, your eyes shine with the Moon’s own glow. That is why they are red — because they are full of moonlight.”

Lily touched her eyes with her little paw. She had never thought of them that way before.

“But Grandma,” she asked, “what if the other animals still laugh?”

Grandma Clover chuckled softly. “They don’t laugh, my dear. They are curious. And when people are curious, it means you have something wonderful that they don’t understand yet. Be patient with them.”

The next morning, Lily woke up feeling braver. She took off the blue scarf and hopped into the meadow with her head held high.

Oliver the Owl was perched on a fence post.

“Good morning, Lily!” he hooted. “Your eyes are… very red today!”

Lily smiled and said, “Yes! The Moon gave them to me. They glow with moonlight so I’m never afraid of the dark.”

Oliver blinked. “The Moon? Really? That’s… actually quite magnificent.”

Then Milo the Mouse came by.

“Hey, Lily! Your eyes are still red!”

“Yes,” Lily said proudly, “they are full of moonlight. Grandma Clover told me the Moon gave them to our family a long, long ago.”

Milo’s tiny mouth opened in surprise. “Wow. I wish I had moonlight eyes.”

By the afternoon, all the animals in the meadow had gathered around Lily.

Rosie the Robin chirped, “Lily, can you tell us the story about the Moon again?”

Oliver said, “I think red eyes are the most beautiful eyes in the whole meadow.”

And Milo the Mouse whispered, “Can I sit next to you? Your eyes make me feel safe.”

Lily’s heart felt warm and full, like a cup of honey on a cold day. She realized that the thing she had been hiding was actually the thing that made her special.

That night, as the stars twinkled above Whispering Woods, Lily sat outside her burrow and looked up at the Moon.

The Moon looked back at her, big and silver and kind.

Lily smiled, and her red eyes sparkled like two little stars.

And from that day on, whenever any little rabbit in the meadow felt different or worried about the way they looked, Grandma Clover would tell them the story of Lily — the little rabbit with red eyes full of moonlight.

And every rabbit would fall asleep knowing that being different is not something to hide.

It is something to shine.

[15
21,18
post-924","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-children","tag-children","tag-story
["GET
