Potato was round and bumpy, with little sleepy eyes all over his body. Carrot was bright orange and very proud of her long, pointy boots.

Every morning, the kitchen filled with warm sunlight. The old clock on the wall ticked softly, and the kettle sang a little steamy song.

But Onion, Potato, and Carrot had a secret.

When the house was quiet, they liked to play.

One evening, after the last cookie had been eaten and the dishes were washed, the kitchen became very still.

“Psst!” whispered Onion. “Is everyone awake?”

Potato blinked one of his little eyes. “I think so.”

Carrot stretched her pointy toes. “I’ve been waiting all day!”

Onion rolled forward and said, “Tonight, I have a wonderful idea. Let’s find the Moon Spoon!”

Potato looked confused. “The what?”

“The Moon Spoon!” said Onion. “The little girl who lives here told her mother,’The moon looks like a silver spoon tonight.’ I want to see it!”

Carrot giggled. “You want to climb up and look at the moon?”

“Yes!” said Onion. “But I cannot do it alone.”

Potato sighed. “I am not very good at climbing. I am more of a rolling kind of potato.”

Carrot stood tall. “Then I will help! I am very good at pointing the way.”

Their adventure began with a tiny wobble.

Potato rolled off the counter with a softbump.

Onion rolled after him with a quietrustle-rustle.

Carrot hopped down with a cheerfultap-tap-tap.

The kitchen floor was cool and shiny, like a little silver lake.

“Oh no,” said Potato. “It is very far to the window.”

Onion looked around. “We need a boat!”

Carrot pointed to an upside-down baking tray. “That looks like a boat to me!”

So the three friends climbed onto the tray. Potato pushed with his round body, Carrot steered with her pointy nose, and Onion cheered, “To the window! To the moon!”

But the tray would not move.

They pushed and pushed.

Potato grunted, “Oof!”

Carrot said, “Heave!”

Onion shouted, “Ho!”

Nothing happened.

Then they heard a soft voice.

“Need some help?”

It was Pepper, the little black pepper shaker.

Pepper had been watching from the spice shelf. He was small, but very brave.

“I can help,” said Pepper. “I am light, but I know how to sprinkle energy!”

And with a tiny shake, Pepper sprinkled a little magic dust of courage.
Shake-shake-shake!

Suddenly, the baking tray slid forward!

“Wheee!” cried Carrot.

The tray glided across the kitchen floor like a little moon boat.

Along the way, they met more friends.

First came Garlic, wrapped in his white pajama coat.

“Where are you going?” asked Garlic sleepily.

“To see the Moon Spoon!” said Onion.

Garlic yawned. “That sounds lovely. Take this.” He gave them a tiny clove of kindness. “It will keep you warm.”

Next came Tomato, who was resting near the fruit bowl.

“I wish I could come,” said Tomato, “but I am very round and very squishy.”

“That is okay,” said Potato kindly. “You can dream the moon for us.”

Tomato smiled. “Then I will dream of a big, red, friendly moon.”

Finally, they met Mama Bread, who was covered with a soft cloth like a blanket.

“You little vegetables,” she whispered, “be careful on the windowsill.”

“We will!” they promised.

At last, the baking tray reached the window.

The moonlight poured in like warm milk.

Onion climbed onto the windowsill first.

Then Potato.

Then Carrot.

Then Pepper, Garlic, and even little Tomato, who had rolled all the way over to watch.

They looked up.

And there it was.

The moon.

Big, round, and silver, hanging in the dark blue sky like a glowing spoon full of stars.

“Oh,” whispered Potato.

“It is beautiful,” said Carrot.

Onion’s eyes grew soft. “It looks like a spoon made of dreams.”

Pepper sprinkled a little starlight.

Garlic tucked his white coat tighter.

Tomato smiled his squishy smile.

And all the kitchen friends sat together, warm and happy, watching the moon.

After a while, Onion began to yawn.

Potato’s little eyes blinked slowly.

Carrot’s pointy boots felt very tired.

“I think,” said Mama Bread gently, “it is time for bed.”

The friends climbed back into the wooden basket.

Potato made a soft nest in the corner.

Carrot curled up beside him.

Onion lay in the middle, surrounded by all her friends.

Pepper settled on a tiny napkin.

Garlic pulled his white coat over his shoulders.

Even Tomato found a cozy spot nearby.

The kitchen clock ticked softly.
Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

Outside, the Moon Spoon shone over the little house.

And inside, the kitchen friends fell asleep, dreaming of silver spoons, starry boats, and tomorrow’s adventures.

[15
21,18
post-968","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-children","tag-children","tag-story
["GET
