Deep in the heart of a faraway forest, there was a meadow filled with daisies and dandelions. Every morning, sunlight spilled across the grass like golden honey. And in this meadow lived a very special little bunny.
This little bunny had fur as soft as cotton candy, two long ears that always stood straight up, and eyes that sparkled like black gemstones. But this little bunny had a small worry—he didn’t have a name yet.
All the other animals in the forest had names. The little squirrel was called “Nutty” because he loved collecting acorns. The little deer was called “Dewdrop” because she liked to run through the morning dew. The little fox was called “Flame” because of his fiery red fur. But the little bunny? He had no idea what his name should be.
“Mama, why don’t I have a name?” the little bunny asked.
Mama Rabbit gently nuzzled his forehead. “My dear, a name is something very special. You need to find it yourself, to discover it. When you find the name that truly belongs to you, your heart will tell you.”
The little bunny blinked, not quite understanding his mama’s words. But he decided to set off and find his name.
First, he met Nutty the squirrel. “Nutty, do you know what my name should be?” the little bunny asked.
Nutty tilted his head and thought for a moment. “You run so fast—why not call yourself ‘Lightning’?”
The little bunny tried running a lap. He really did run fast, like a gust of wind. But when he stopped, he felt that although “Lightning” was a cool name, it didn’t seem to be the one he wanted.
Next, he met Dewdrop the deer. “Dewdrop, what do you think my name should be?”
The deer spoke gently. “You’re so white and soft, just like the clouds in the sky. Why not call yourself ‘Cloud’?”
The little bunny looked up at the sky, where white clouds drifted lazily. He liked clouds, but when he closed his eyes and listened to his heart, he felt that “Cloud” wasn’t his true name either.
Later, he met Flame the fox. The fox playfully spun in a circle. “You’re always hopping around so happily—why not call yourself ‘Happy’?”
The little bunny laughed. He really was very happy. But “Happy” sounded more like a nut, and he was a bunny, after all.
The little bunny sat down on the grass, his ears drooping. He had been searching for so long, but still hadn’t found his name.
Just then, an old owl flew over and landed on a branch beside him. The owl wore a tiny pair of spectacles and looked very wise.
“What are you looking for, little one?” the owl asked.
“I’m looking for my name,” said the little bunny. “But I don’t know what it is.”
The owl blinked his big eyes. “A name isn’t something you find—it’s something you feel. Close your eyes and listen to what your heart is saying.”
The little bunny obediently closed his eyes. He heard the wind rustling through the grass, the distant sound of a stream flowing, and birds singing in the trees. And then he heard a tiny voice inside his heart, softly whispering a word.
“Oliver,” the little bunny whispered.
The owl smiled. “Oliver—what a beautiful name. It means ‘peace’ and ‘olive tree,’ just like you: gentle and kind.”
The little bunny opened his eyes and hopped up with joy. Yes, “Oliver” was his name! The name made him feel warm and safe, just like his mama’s embrace.
From that day on, all the animals in the forest knew that the little white bunny was called Oliver. And Oliver finally understood that a name is more than just a word—it is the truest version of yourself.
Every night, when the moon rose, Oliver would curl up in his mama’s arms, listening to the crickets chirping in the forest, and drift sweetly into dreamland. He knew he had a beautiful name, and a warm home.
Good night, Oliver. Good night, all the little ones listening to this story. May you also find your own name, and your own warmth.
