Once upon a time, in a small valley called Sunny Hollow, there lived a cheerful little goat named Sammy.

Sammy had soft brown fur, tiny white horns, and a tail that wiggled whenever he felt happy. And because Sammy was almost always happy, his tail wiggled nearly all day long.

One warm morning, Sammy found a small, round seed near the old oak tree.

“Hmm,” said Sammy, turning the seed over with his hoof. “You look very small, but also very important.”

A little bluebird flew down and chirped, “That’s a melon seed! If you plant it, it can grow into a big, sweet melon.”

Sammy’s eyes grew wide. “A melon? I’ve never grown anything before!”

“Then today is your first day as a gardener,” said the bluebird.

Sammy carefully dug a small hole in the soft earth. He placed the seed inside, covered it gently, and whispered, “Sleep well, little seed. Tomorrow, please wake up.”

Every day after that, Sammy visited the garden.

He watered the soil.
He pulled out tiny weeds.
He sang little songs to the seed.
He even told it about the clouds, the butterflies, and the warm sunshine.

But nothing seemed to happen.

One evening, Sammy sat beside the garden with a sigh. “Maybe I’m not a good gardener.”

Just then, his friend Rosie the rabbit hopped over. Rosie had long ears, a pink nose, and a very kind heart.

“Growing things takes time,” Rosie said softly. “You must be patient, Sammy. Seeds are like sleepy babies. They need rest before they can grow.”

Sammy nodded. “Then I will wait. And I will be very patient.”

The next morning, something wonderful happened.

A tiny green sprout peeked out of the soil!

“Rosie! Rosie!” Sammy called. “Come quick! The seed woke up!”

Rosie hopped over as fast as her little legs could carry her. “Oh, Sammy! It’s a baby plant!”

From that day on, the little green sprout grew taller and taller. Its leaves became wide and bright. Yellow flowers bloomed, and soon a small green melon appeared.

Sammy was so excited that he danced around the garden.

But then, trouble came.

A hungry crow flew down and looked at the melon. “What a juicy melon! I think I will eat it!”

Sammy stood in front of it. “No, please! This melon is not ready yet.”

The crow tilted his head. “Why not?”

“Because it still needs sunshine, water, and time,” said Sammy. “If you eat it now, it won’t be sweet.”

The crow looked at the melon. Then he looked at Sammy’s hopeful eyes.

“Hmm,” said the crow. “I do like sweet melons.”

“Wait until it turns golden,” Sammy promised. “Then we can share it together.”

The crow thought for a moment and flew up to the fence. “Very well. I will wait. But only because you asked so nicely.”

Days passed, and the melon grew bigger and rounder. One sunny afternoon, it turned a warm golden color.

Sammy invited all his friends to the garden.

Rosie the rabbit came.
The bluebird came.
Even the crow came, hopping politely along the path.

Sammy cut the melon into small pieces. Everyone took a bite.

“Oh!” said Rosie. “It’s so sweet!”

“It tastes like sunshine,” chirped the bluebird.

The crow nodded happily. “You were right, Sammy. Waiting made it better.”

Sammy smiled. His tail wiggled with joy.

That night, as the stars came out over Sunny Hollow, Sammy lay in his cozy little bed. He thought about the tiny seed, the green sprout, the golden melon, and all the friends who had shared it.

“Growing something is hard work,” he whispered sleepily. “But it is also full of love.”

And with that happy thought, Sammy the goat closed his eyes and drifted into a sweet, peaceful sleep.

Good night, Sammy.
Good night, Sunny Hollow.
Good night, little dreamer.
