Once upon a time, in a sunny valley surrounded by green hills, there lived a little pig named Barnaby.

Barnaby was the roundest, pinkiest pig in the whole farm. He had a curly tail that wiggled when he was happy, and big, floppy ears that flapped when he walked. But Barnaby had one little problem—he was very, very lazy.

While the other animals were busy in the morning, Barnaby was still sleeping.
“Come on, Barnaby!” called Clucky the hen. “The sun is up! Let’s find some yummy worms!”
“Mmm, too early,” Barnaby mumbled, rolling over in his soft hay. “I’ll find worms… later.”

While the sheep were playing tag in the meadow, Barnaby was napping under the big oak tree.
“Come play with us, Barnaby!” bleated Sammy the sheep.
“Too tiring,” Barnaby sighed, closing his eyes. “I’ll play… after my nap.”

Barnaby loved eating, though. He loved crunchy apples, sweet carrots, and warm pumpkin pie. But because he never moved, his tummy started to feel heavy, and his legs felt a bit wobbly.

One day, a big storm rolled into the valley. The wind howled, and the rain poured down. All the animals ran to the big red barn to stay dry and safe. But when they got there, they realized something terrible—the barn door was stuck! The wind had blown a big branch right in front of it.

“Oh no!” cried Clucky. “How will we get inside?”
Sammy the sheep tried to push the branch, but it was too heavy. The little mice tried to pull it, but it wouldn’t budge. Everyone was cold and shivering.

Barnaby looked at his friends. He didn’t like seeing them cold. He took a deep breath. He planted his sturdy pink feet in the mud. He lowered his strong head.

“I can help,” Barnaby said.

He pushed with all his might.Oink! Grunt! Push!
His muscles worked hard. His curly tail stood straight up. Slowly, the heavy branch began to move. With one final big push, the branch rolled away!

“Hooray!” cheered all the animals. They rushed into the warm, dry barn.

That night, as the storm raged outside, the animals shared their food with Barnaby. He ate a delicious apple and felt warmer than ever before—not just from the food, but from the feeling in his heart.

Barnaby realized that moving around wasn’t so bad after all. In fact, being strong enough to help his friends felt wonderful.

From that day on, Barnaby wasn’t the laziest pig in the valley. He still loved his naps, but every morning, he woke up early to play tag with Sammy and help Clucky find the best worms. And every night, he slept the deepest, happiest sleep, dreaming of his next big adventure.

Goodnight, Barnaby. Goodnight, you.
